On the morning of Tues., June 12 volunteers are needed to help conduct a walkability and accessibility audit of community bus stops to identify potential areas of improvement to ensure older adults and, people with disabilities can safely and easily access transportation. Many things determine if someone will have an enjoyable experience on transit including: a protected place away from traffic to wait, wide and smooth sidewalk connections to bus stops, and safe places to cross the road nearby. Volunteers will meet at the Health Department at 10 a.m. and receive guidance on what to look for, materials for conducting the audit, and a facilitated discussion will be provided by planning and aging experts from Centralina Council of Governments. Anyone interested in helping out should contact Katie Kutcher, KKutcher@centralina.org.
